Our mission is to transform culture into a tool for social cohesion, relevant education and place-based regeneration through participatory, inclusive and transferable projects. We create contexts in which art, science, technology and communities meet, generating collaborations between artists, researchers, specialists, institutions and local authorities. Our programmes build bridges between generations, open conversations and offer audiences access to rare perspectives and experiences in an accessible, creative and meaningful way.

A relevant portfolio at national and international level (2015–2025)

In the last ten years, ESCU has developed a portfolio with major visibility, with projects recognised both in Romania and within European and global networks.

World Experience Festival / Embassies Festival – now in its fifth edition, it is one of the most influential cultural diplomacy programmes in Romania, connecting over 80 embassies, cultural institutes and international organisations.

NATO Youth Academy (3 editions) – a strategic training and dialogue programme for young people, developed in cooperation with NATO structures, which strengthens democratic education and the understanding of global security.

Made in RO: Museum of Advertising and Romanian Brands (5 editions) – the most extensive initiative dedicated to recovering and reinterpreting the history of brands, advertising and design in Romania.

Exhibitions and educational programmes such as Romania at the Olympic Games, Millennials Generation, Play and Games, The Musical Man, The Brain: Mind & Emotions, Alice in Wonderland: a recycled story have explored themes ranging from neuroscience and sport to sustainability and heritage, demonstrating ESCU’s capacity to integrate research, art and storytelling into a format accessible to wide audiences.

Innovation and digitalisation in heritage

Between 2022–2024, ESCU implemented Herculane Stories: virtual museum, the first pilot project in Romania for immersive digitalisation dedicated to a spa town, exploring new models of accessibility, interpretation and promotion of heritage through XR technology, multimedia installations and digital archives.

Cultural expertise, real impact, international recognition

ESCU has an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of the Romanian cultural sector and its challenges: audience diversification, activation of local communities, development of sustainable and scalable cultural products.

Our projects have been carried out under the aegis of: UNESCO, NATO, European Year of Cultural Heritage, European Congress of Local Governments and have involved a vast number of cultural, educational and institutional partners from Europe and beyond.

In 10 years, we have reached over 450,000 participants, contributing to the consolidation of a dynamic, credible cultural ecosystem, strategically oriented towards innovation and transnational collaboration.

FLAGSHIP EXHIBITION “THE BRAIN: MIND & EMOTIONS” WILL BE PRESENTED FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR IN CLUJ-NAPOCA

The exhibition is conceived by ESCU Association and will be hosted by Aushopping Iris (13–26 March), daily, during opening hours between 09:00–21:00.
Admission is free.

The educational event for the whole family, decoding the most fascinating human organ, “The Brain: Mind & Emotions”, will be organised this year for the first time in Cluj-Napoca, at Aushopping Iris, 1st floor, next to the Laguna store. It proposes an interactive exhibition about the universe of the human brain, a journey through the fascinating world of neurons and synapses, of emotions and of the historical path of research in this field, helping visitors of all ages to discover the inner workings of the human mind. During the weekend of 22–23 March, the exhibition will also include a special educational programme of inventive robotics workshops for young people.

The exhibition will try to answer some curiosities and questions: why does the brain exist? Where does consciousness come from? What about creativity? What happens when the mind is ill? Can intelligent machines be created to augment the brain’s capacities? We will also explore the ways in which art, science and philosophy have represented this fascinating organ throughout history, guiding us both through the anatomy of the brain and through everything it generates: consciousness, abstract thinking, language, imagination, dreams and memory.

Launch of the virtual museum HERCULANE STORIES!

The museum project, which decodes and virtualises through new technologies the destiny of a tourist resort, was officially launched in Băile Herculane on 30 May.

Herculane Stories started from a personal dream and a desire to get involved in the life of the resort, beyond the romanticised experience of a simple tourist, something that naturally grew into a mature experimental project, leading to the creation of an online platform that feels like a multimodal experience of navigation, reactivation and cultural and touristic mapping of the main historical and community landmarks in Băile Herculane. The resort and the people there fully deserve the establishment of a stand-alone, physical museum; until then, however, Herculane Stories offers a favourable context for an interactive journey into the life stories of local people, whose memory is still very much alive today and whose testimonies can shape the way we understand, interpret, construct or deconstruct the cultural identity of this resort in a universal sense. Through our project, the enchanting, almost poetic story of Băile Herculane is preserved, celebrated and carried forward into the digital age, inviting visitors from all over the world to explore and discover it.” – Andreea Dănescu, founder of Herculane Stories, President of ESCU Association. MADE IN RO: POP-UP MUSEUM OF ROMANIAN ADVERTISING AND BRANDS, PRESENTED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ORADEA, AT ERA SHOPPING PARK

Thousands of exhibits take visitors on a nostalgic and humorous journey through the last 150 years of advertising creativity and brands that have made history in everyday life.
This spring, between 06–21 May 2023, ERA Shopping Park Oradea, in collaboration with ESCU Association, invites you to visit an exhibition presented for the first time in Bihor: Made in RO – museum of Romanian advertising and brands. This new edition of the nonconformist museum, already enjoyed by more than 150,000 visitors since its debut in 2018, invites you to explore over 2,500 exhibits that tell the story of famous brands from the everyday life of several generations, in a creative and playful exhibition design that recreates, on a small scale, the atmosphere of Romanian homes from the interwar and communist periods, as well as the shops that sparked so many amusing stories, such as the grocery store or the electronics and home appliances store.
The selection of advertising artworks and objects will include original pieces from four distinct time periods: pre-war, interwar, the communist period and the return to capitalism in contemporary times – comprising both prints (posters, newspapers, magazines) and representative objects for the industrial design of mass-consumption products, set in authentic period décors, offering a physical chronicle of Romania’s economic memory, where we highlight the cultural and historical identity of the creative industries. “THE HISTORY OF BEAUTY IN ROMANIA”. WOMEN’S MONTH IS CELEBRATED THROUGH A UNIQUE EVENT EXPLORING THE LOCAL BEAUTY INDUSTRY, PERFUMERS, ALCHEMISTS AND RESEARCHERS, ICONIC PRODUCTS AND ARTEFACTS FROM THE LAST CENTURY

Between 8–26 March 2023, Mega Mall Bucharest and ESCU Association invite Bucharest residents to embark on an exhibition overview of a Romanian century of femininity and refinement. The event challenges you to explore accessories and adornments, fashion, cosmetics and perfumes from the period 1890–1990, objects that belong to private and museum collections and present an idealised side of women’s lives, captured through beauty objects, personal and cosmetic items, ads for “miraculous” products, and articles and stories about personal care and charm, collected from the press of the time.
This micro-museum dedicated to beauty (or to “dichis” and coquettishness) is a pop-up exhibition concept about the better and lesser-known beauty standards and practices from Romania that have made history: starting with the Interwar period, with the famous Vorel Laboratory in Piatra Neamț, the cosmetics factories Nivea, Legrain, Stella, S.A. Harnicul, with the drugstores and laboratories of Pap Karoly, A. Kovács and Nortier, then moving towards the mid-20th century, to Ana Aslan and her Gerovital, and later to the largest cosmetics retailers such as Miraj, Farmec, Faun, Rouă, Favorit, Jubileu, Oana, Doina, Cheia, Vis, Pell-Amar, Eva – all proper nouns that consolidate the legend of Romanian cosmetics from the second half of the 20th century.
These products and objects, once seen on shop shelves and in the boudoirs of society ladies in the early 20th century, and later [...]

Some inventions are simply made to stand the test of time. This is also the case with these toys, which appeared centuries ago, have been perfected and modernised and still delight every child – and every nostalgic grown-up.
The exhibition is based on unique personal collections belonging to the collaborators of the Toys Museum Association and Comics Didactic, many of these games, toys and illustrations being exhibited to the public for the first time. The museum of Romanian advertising and brands returns “home”, bringing the authentic décor and content of a department store from 50 or even 100 years ago into the most natural space where it could exist today – a state-of-the-art shopping centre. Between 2–18 October, at Mega Mall, visitors will discover how advertising emerged as an industry in Romania, what Romanians used to buy in the past, and the stories behind the ads and national brands of yesteryear, marking the start of the third edition of the first temporary museum of Romanian advertising and brands, initiated and organised by ESCU Association.

The third edition of the Made in RO advertising and brands museum will continue in November at Galeria Senat (Combinatul Fondului Plastic), with a complex educational component including exhibitions, talks, guided tours, podcasts and creative workshops, masterclasses and experiential spaces for enthusiasts of visual arts, design, fashion, advertising, media history, professionals and practitioners in communication, as well as the general public – nostalgic or simply lovers of national brands. This year’s event will also mark the creation of the first virtual museum of Romanian advertising and brands, which will serve as a digital chronicle of the memory of Romania’s creative industries, including virtual tours, articles, analyses, archival photographs, press fragments and, most importantly, the digitisation of part of the collections displayed in the exhibition on the project’s dedicated website [...]

Commercial break and Made in RO products: for the first time, the first temporary museum of Romanian advertising and brands will be launched, 8–24 November, at ARCUB (Hanul Gabroveni)

Our proposed project is a journey to (re)discover national brands and the typology of Romanian advertising. The temporary museum of Romanian advertising and brands tests our ability to be attentive, curious and patient with a commercial message from another era, often built on a ratio now forbidden in advertising manuals: 25% image and 75% text. We aim for this initiative to become, in the near future, a standalone project with its own “home”, which will bring together, through a long-term effort, [...]

Made in RO: 100 Years of Romanian Branding – a project that brought generations together

#MadeInRO, about how we can celebrate the Centenary of the Great Union in a different way, was the vision of ESCU Association and collector Florian Ciobanu (*Reclame Vechi Românești 1840–1995), offering the public an illustrated retrospective of national advertising and brands from the last century, in a manifesto-project on the cultural scene in Romania.
At the beginning of the 20th century: politeness and elegance everywhere. In the interwar period: stylish posters making an international career. In early communism: propaganda and slogans. After the ’60s: tractor ads and dry information. What came next? The chaos of democracy. An unusual retrospective familiarises us with how Romanian advertising of the last 100 years has evolved – or regressed. How did the approach and perception of advertising change from the pre-war period to communism and the post-1989 era? The exhibition “Made in RO. 100 Years of Romanian Branding” tells the story of a century of creativity. (*source: Digicult, Digi24)
